Chocolate Labrador Retriever - Large - Adult - Male - Dog - Troo
Description
* { font:inherit; } Please contact Anne (RedFernAnimalShelter@netscape.com), (731) 332-9116 for more information about this pet.I was named Trooper because my lot in life is a difficult one. My time here is short, and I hope to spend it in the loving arms of someone who is willing to suffer unbearable heartache when I'm gone. By the time I arrived at Red Fern, heartworms had so badly damaged my heart that I cannot withstand treatment. I have congestive heart failure. I'm happy, and I love short walks. I especially love sitting with someone who will stroke me gently and tell me what a precious boy I am. I am on several different medications, and once a month I must undergo abdominocentesis, which draws the accumulated fluid from my body. I don't mind this at all, even though it does its own form of damage to my heart. It makes me feel good for another month, and I will keep having this done as long my life is filled with joy. My people will know when the time comes, and I hope that they will be strong enough to let me go. They apologize to me each day for taking so long to find me, but I know that the length of time I have left is not important. How I live the rest of my life is what counts, and I am making the most of every single day. The only thing that could make me happier would be to have my very own good person. There are many good dogs waiting at Red Fern. I am a good dog, too, and I am waiting. I just don't have as long to wait as some of the others. Please hurry. Trooper's adoption fee is $0.00, but his adopter will give much, much more than money. His adopter will welcome him home knowing that there's no way out of the inevitable pain and heartache that's coming. Trooper's third picture shows him as he looked on July 4, a few days after his most recent abdominocentesis. You can see that Trooper is very thin, even with his filling abdomen. His ribs, backbone, and hipbones are still visible. This is after two months of good food and health care, so you can imagine how he looked when he first arrived. His spirit is very, very strong, and he is happy to be with us each day.
